Newborn sessions have a golden window.
It’s short. It’s roughly five to fourteen days after birth. And if you wait too long to think about it, it’s already gone.
I know that sounds like pressure, and I don’t mean it that way. I just want you to have the information early enough that it’s not stressful. Because the good news is, you can plan all of this now, before your baby arrives, and then simply let it unfold.
In those first two weeks, newborns are still deeply sleepy. They curl naturally into the tucked, snuggly positions that make those impossibly beautiful images possible. They settle more easily. They spend more time in deep, restful sleep.
After about two weeks, that starts to shift.
They become more alert, which is wonderful for development but trickier for the kind of posed, still, peaceful images most clients are after. They also become more aware of being moved and handled, which can mean a longer session with more unsettled moments.
None of this means you can’t have a gorgeous session after two weeks. Plenty of my clients do. Lifestyle-style images, awake and alert, can be just as beautiful. But if you’re drawn to those soft, curled, sleepy newborn images, the earlier the better.

During your pregnancy.
Ideally somewhere between twenty and thirty weeks.
I know it can feel strange to book a session for a baby who hasn’t arrived yet. But here’s how it works: you book your place, we note your due date, and I hold a flexible window around it. When your baby arrives, you get in touch and we lock in the exact date based on how you’re both doing.
You’re not committing to a specific day. You’re securing your place in the calendar so that when the time comes, it’s sorted.
This is genuinely not something to worry about.
Babies rarely arrive exactly on time, and I plan for that. If your baby comes early, we adjust. If they’re late, same. The goal is always to get you in during that ideal window, not to hold you to a date that no longer makes sense.

Not sure exactly when to book or how to time things?
I have a session calculator on my website that takes your due date and works out your ideal session window, plus gives you a sense of what to expect at each stage. It takes about thirty seconds and takes all the guesswork out of it.
Use the session calculator here.
It’s also a helpful way to start thinking about everything else you might want to capture in the first year. Because the newborn stage goes fast, and so does everything that follows.
You don’t need a Pinterest board. I will guide you through the whole session. You just need to show up.
Bring nothing extra. A fed, clean baby and a comfortable outfit for you. The rest is handled.
Allow for feeding and settling time. A newborn session with me runs up to three hours, not because we’re rushing, but because we go at your baby’s pace. There will be feeds. There will be nappy changes. That’s all built in.
The studio has some capacity considerations for large groups. If you have older children or extended family joining, just let me know when you enquire and we’ll work out the best approach.
If you’re expecting, now is the perfect time to reach out, even if your due date feels far away.
The most common thing I hear from clients who didn’t book early enough is: I didn’t think I’d need to plan this far ahead.
You do. But it’s simple, and I’ll walk you through all of it.
